During work, I always try to find time to read the Channel NewsAsia website to keep myself updated on some of "big news" happening. And as most ppl know, the Olympic news cover quite a large proportion of the new. E.g The Ah Tiongs are boy-cotting the 100++ Carrefour outlets.
Owellz, got this from the Channel NewsAsia website:
"China expresses its strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition" to the honour, foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said in a statement posted on the ministry's website. "This interferes rudely with China's internal affairs and seriously harms the Sino-French relationship, and in particular the existing friendly ties between Paris and Beijing." The Chinese reaction came a day after the Paris councillors voted to award honorary citizenship to the Dalai Lama, and follows a series of anti-France rallies in China in recent days, triggered partly by a threat by President Nicolas Sarkozy to stay away from the Beijing Olympic opening ceremony. In her statement, Jiang singled out anti-Chinese protests during the Paris leg of the torch relay, saying those tumultuous scenes had "hurt the Chinese people's feelings." "The fact that this moment the Paris city council decides to make the Dalai Lama an honorary citizen can only be seen as a serious challenge to 1.3 billion Chinese including Tibetans," she said.
To be frank, I don't see any reason why China should kaopei so much when France decides to award citizenship to Dalai Lama. Like piangz, since China forced Dalai Lama not to be able to return to his own homeland; Tibet (on exile), making him having to "take refuge" in other countries for the past decades, then I don see why China wan to make so much noise when a country wants to give citizenship to him. And I think it's very childish of the Chinese to even think of boy-cotting French giant supermarket Carrefour.
Okay, I guess my strong feelings towards Ah Tiongs can boil down to my working place, which happened to be where Kaplan campus is. As I think like 90% of the students in Kaplan are Ah Tiongs, so everytime when I use the lift, it's INEVITABLE I will bump into a large group of them, regardless of the time. And seriously, I think they really got no basic manner. Example, they TALK so loudy as if they are making announcements. Then a LARGE group of them will stand at the Level1 Lift Lobby, obviously creating a LARGE road-block for many other ppl who try to walk past. Also, they take AGES to decide whether they wan to take the lift anot, in the process wasting other ppl's PRECIOUS TIME in waiting for them, and whoever stands near the button must PRESS the OPEN button and wait for them to decide. These are just some of the unpleasant events that cause me to have such negative feelings towards them. Wellz, don't blame me for saying all these. Blame themselves for being so.. erm.. ill-mannered. Watever.
